Introduction
On last Thursday, October 15, 2026, Elon Musk, the owner of Tesla, showed before an elite audience the working of his Roadster Fly car, much to the astonishment of the gathering of people invited by him. This major feat was tested at his SpaceX facility. Addressing the spellbound people, he said that you are going to see some crazy stuff that day. He added further that what they were going to see they would not believe.
The Flying Car
Soon after the address, the flying car appeared on the screen, crawling up a ramp and standing stationary upside down. Later, it exited the loop and landed safely on the ground after doing gravity-defying two summersaults. This next-generation electric car prototype features SpaceX-derived cold-gas thrusters and a suction-based downforce system that allows it to perform short leaps, rolls, and brief airborne maneuvers.
How It Works?
The car prototype uses 10 SpaceX cold-gas thrusters that are used in its space flights. This thruster consumes 600 liters of compressed air to execute short jumps, flips, and rolls rather than continuous flight. There is an undersized fan suction system that creates up to 2 Gs of downforce to help the car grip tracks and even drive upside down on curved ramps. Tesla owner Elon Musk claimed that it can go from 0 to 60 mph in under a second. This flying/rocket car variant is neither approved for public roads nor classified as an aircraft by the FAA to date. Full production is slated for 2028.
